Employers
There are three main categories of teaching staff employer in Scotland
- Scottish local authorities — the largest employer of teaching staff (from nursery through to secondary school levels)
- Independent private schools and nurseries
- The further and higher education sector
There is also a healthy market for extra-curricular teaching and many teachers choose to offer private tuition in a self-employed capacity.
