Scotland has a long and distinguished history of producing quality textiles, maintained through a continued focus in design and marketing.
The industry consists mainly of quality manufacturers of luxury niche products, including knitwear and accessories, woven apparel, interiors fabrics, accessories, and technical textiles.
The Scottish textiles industry creates ranges for the world's elite luxury brands and couture houses.
There are about 450 textiles companies in Scotland which employ over 17,000 people.
The majority of these companies are Scottish-owned and are based in the Borders region, west central Scotland, and around Dundee.
However some traditional textiles manufacturers, such as those of Harris Tweed, are also to be found in island and rural locations.
