On 23 July 2014, Glasgow will be hosting the XX Commonwealth Games, the largest sporting event ever held in the city. An estimated 1,000,000 tickets will be sold, for 250 medal events that will be broadcasted to millions.

To coincide with the Games, a number of new sporting venues are being developed across Glasgow, its surrounding area and Edinburgh. The new Athletes Village will create thousands of new homes in Glasgow’s east end and provide a lasting legacy for the Games in Scotland.

People across Scotland will have the opportunity to volunteer at the Games and get involved with sporting competitions, helping visitors and spectators and benefit from a once in a lifetime experience. Getting involved in Glasgow 2014 is easy.

Glasgow 2014 Venues

Glasgow has a strong sporting history and a collection of high calibre sporting venues throughout the city will be further development to coincide with the Games.

The new National Indoor Sports Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow’s east end will provide one of the most versatile and innovative structures of its kind in Europe. The site is owned by Glasgow City Council and will help to develop the next generation of elite Scottish athletes.

Edinburgh’s Royal Commonwealth Pool, which is hosting the Diving competition, is getting upgraded to meet international standards.

The Athlete’s Village is currently being developed and is due to be opened in January 2014. The 35 hectare site includes 700 units; over 1400 homes, 300 of which will be available for social rental.

For people in Scotland and Glasgow the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games will bring a number of employment and training opportunities.

Volunteering at Glasgow 2014

Volunteers will be needed for Glasgow 2014, from all walks of life and from all locations. Volunteers go through a rigorous assessment process and you must be able to commit your time in the run up to, and during, the Games. The volunteer programme is due to start at the beginning of 2012.
