Job summary

The Development Scientist will work within a team on contract and internal development projects. These include developing immunoassays such as lateral flow tests and emerging rapid diagnostic technologies.

Job Description

  • Work as part of the R&D team in the development of diagnostic assays.
  • Plan, design and complete laboratory experimental work on a day to day basis, as approved by Project Manager.
  • Write up experiments in a format and timescale adhering to company quality procedures.
  • Successfully develop products in a compliant manner adhering to design control.
  • Work cooperatively within an R&D team, sharing ideas and concepts to enable achievement of goals.
  • Work and form good relationships within the team and across the R&D, Production, Quality and other departments.
  • Present data in project meetings in a clear, understandable manner.  Encourage feedback on experiments.  Contribute ideas and solutions to all areas of the project.
  • Attend customer meetings and present results as required. Work to achieve customer satisfaction.

Skills / Experience

  • Job holder should be inventive and creative in their approach to solving problems.
  • It is essential to be able to learn new skills quickly in a wide and varied area of research and development.
  • The job holder should contribute ideas and solutions to all areas of the project.  They should gain a good overall view of all aspects of the project and understand the impacts of each part.
  • The job holder should be receptive to working in a fast-paced, constantly changing work environment that demands they regularly step out of their comfort zone.
  • They should be motivated by delivery of results through robust and high quality work.
  • Work within the company quality management system.
  • Experience and competence with Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and statistical packages
  • Travel – up to 3 times per year (possibly abroad) with duration of 1-4 days per trip.

Qualifications

  • Science degree
  • Practical laboratory experience, ideally immunoassay experience
