Electronics Design Engineer

Job summary

We are at the cutting edge of the hydrocarbon exploration industry and our business relies on novel technology designed in-house. We require an experienced Electronics Design Engineer to complement the existing design group in Edinburgh, Scotland, developing unique equipment for our worldwide operations.

Job Description

We are looking for an exceptional engineer with strong potential who can work on complex assignments where independent action and a high degree of initiative are required. You will be involved in designs from the initial requirements stage to prototype manufacture and beyond.

The ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude and be willing to work in a small team with broad responsibilities. You must have:

• A degree level (BEng, BSc or equivalent) in electronics
• Professional experience of electronics design with an emphasis on power circuits and mixed signal systems
• Proven experience of undertaking own electronics circuit design with minimum supervision
• Excellent understanding of electronic components, specifications, uses, selection criteria and datasheets
• High level of initiative and desire to take responsibility for own work
• Broad engineering knowledge and ability to integrate designs at a system level
• Experience using at least one electronics CAD package for schematic capture (Cadence OrCAD preferred)

Qualifications

• Experience of power supply design and knowledge of power semiconductor theory (e.g. SMPS design, use of IGBTs and other power transistors
• Experience of low level programming of microprocessors (e.g. C, Assembler)
• Basic PCB layout experience
• Working knowledge of EMC / RFI techniques
• Awareness of design for harsh environments - avionics, military or oil & gas industry
• Experience of safety critical systems
• Experience of testing prototype equipment in laboratory and field
• Experience in documentation including requirements specification, design description, test specification etc.
