BNP Paribas Securities Services provide securities services and investment operations to financial players around the globe. The company moved to Scotland in 2002 and made a strategic decision to expand their operations here in 2007.

Over 400 staff work from their Glasgow and Dundee offices; providing  fund administration and accounting services to global clients.

TalentScotland spoke to Stephen Donnet, Head of Scotland Operations, BNP Paribas Securities Services about the history of the company and their future expansion into overseas markets.

How and why did the company start?

BNP Paribas Securities Services is a wholly-owned, subsidiary of BNP Paribas. We specialise in providing security services and investment operations solutions to financial players around the world.

The company was born out of a merger between Banque Nationale de Paris and Paribas in 2000 and has continued to grow since then. We moved to Scotland in 2002 and made a strategic decision to expand and take advantage of the UK skills base in 2007.

What is your particular area of expertise?

We bring together local insight and global scale to create long-term relationships and solutions for our clients who need to maximise their market investment opportunities.

What size is the organisation? 

We have around 6,900 employees worldwide, 400 of which are based in Dundee and Glasgow. We have offices in 32 countries, which are involved in over 100 markets. We’re on the ground in Europe, Asia and Australasia and the US, providing a range of securities services.

Do you employ many graduates?

We recruit fresh graduates as well as candidates with more experienced profiles. Qualifications and personal experience are important but we also take a special interest in our behaviours. We look out for qualities of motivation, adaptability, team spirit, enthusiasm and leadership.

We’ve just completed our first accelerated growth programme which gave trainees the opportunity to develop their technical skills in different departments of the business.

What does the future hold for BNP Paribas Securities Services?

In the future, we’ll be looking to further expand our services into Asian and Latin American markets whilst consolidating in Europe. We’re also looking to leverage our product centres in Chennai, Warsaw, Lisbon and Glasgow over the coming months. We aim to become the number one global brand in Securities Services, known for Operational excellence, quality of people and thought leadership.
