Hymans Robertson
Hymans Robertson has been providing actuarial advice and consultancy services to the occupational pensions market for over 90 years.
Working in both the public and private sectors, the independently run partnership offers:
- investment and actuarial consultancy
- pension scheme design and management
- third party administration
- risk management consultancy
Market leader
Hymans Robertson is the market leader in public sector pensions consultancy.
Managing Partner James Entwisle said: “At heart, we are really analysts and risk managers. We look primarily at defined benefit schemes but we are equally capable of applying those skills to other areas of risk management.”
The firm recently launched an Enterprise Risk Management service to assist banks and life insurance businesses with risk management.
It is also developing its Club Vita subscription research database into longevity trend analysis which is the largest database of its kind in the UK.
Communications
Hymans Robertson also puts a great deal of emphasis on communications.
James said: “We help design and implement pension plans and the whole range of employee benefits and there has been particularly strong growth in developing communications around employee reward and saving for retirement.
“It’s one thing to spend a lot of money installing a good scheme but better still to ensure the employees truly value that benefit – we now have a team of 13 specialising in this area.
“Our values are to be friendly, partnering, confident and straightforward. That’s why we look to our consultants to put a human face on to the complex mathematics, so that pension scheme members, trustees or sponsors understand the real issues.”
Strong market in Scotland
The firm has offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh and employs 540 staff, of which around 200 are actuaries.
James explained: “Scotland is a very strong market for us and we do a large amount of UK-wide work out of our Scottish offices.
“We continue to expand and look for talent with a broad outlook, be it at graduate level or experienced hires – numeracy and communication skills are obviously important, but it’s the something ‘extra’ that we are interested in.”
