How has recruitment changed since you started in the industry?
It’s very much changed from an industry of hot metal to hot keyboards.
When a company was looking to get a role filled in the past an administrator typed up an advertisement and sent it away to the local press. This doesn’t really happen now.
Online application and candidate management systems are becoming essential. Candidate behaviour has radically changed and as a result the Employer Brand is critical in differentiating organisations and getting their vision and values across. There’s an increased synergy between employer branding, social media and SEO, and with all of them working together companies can make a real impact on their attraction and quality of hire.
How can a company get the best out of their online recruitment strategy?
There’s no one thing that will help you attract the right people. It’s a mix of strategy, experience and planning. We help companies to look at the detail behind the process and interpret the outputs.
Right now, many companies want to launch into social media but it only works if a company is engaging with their audience correctly and in a way that’s in line with their existing brand values.
There is a great boom in digital recruitment in all areas, including candidate management and response handling, generalist and specialist job boards, SEO and Pay Per Click (PPC), and social listening.
The starting point is to define the talent needed to make a company a success, and structure the acquisition process accordingly – assessment and profiling for the roles, media to match the market , digital platforms to reach within and beyond the current online job seekers and professional candidate management. It’s essential to get the candidate journey right, and it all begins with the employer brand.
