Employer Recruitment Incentive

The Employer Recruitment Incentive (ERI) is supported by the Scottish Government and European Social Fund and aims to help small businesses expand their workforce at a time when they might otherwise find it difficult to do so. Businesses can access the financial support when they employ individuals who have gone through one of SDS's pre-employment programmes, or have experienced significant barriers to work in the past.

SDS is responsible for delivering two different pre-employment programmes: Get Ready for Work to give young people essential employability skills; and Training for Work, providing vocational skills to help unemployed people aged 18+ to better meet the current needs of industry.

Modern Apprenticeships, meanwhile, offer the individual full-time employment as well as work-based learning with the obvious benefit to employers of having a skilled member of staff. SDS also supports delivery of Modern Apprenticeships making a significant financial contribution to this type of training.

There are two levels of ERI depending on the size of the company. For companies with between 50 and 250 employees, a £1,000 incentive is available, while businesses with less than 50 staff qualify for an additional £1,000. Employers with 250 staff or more can also receive £1,000, but only where they are taking on an under 18 who has experienced significant barriers to work.
