Forth Dimension Displays
What is your company background?
As a company operating in the ever-fast evolving technology and electronics sector, Forth Dimension Displays always have to be on the lookout for opportunities to bring their world-leading Near-To-Eye (NTE) microdisplay technology to new markets. Currently supplying companies in areas as diverse as military training and simulation, medicine and cinematography, ForthDD is now exploring opportunities in the consumer entertainment sector.
Why did you choose to take on a graduate placement?
With this in mind, they made the decision to bring Gavin Moffat, a qualified marketing graduate, on board for a 6 month internship where he was tasked with researching the opportunities in this market. His internship has been purely dedicated to a new and exciting, fully immersive, entertainment experience that Forth Dimension Displays are set to showcase this summer.
What is your graduate involved in?
The entertainment project is built on the idea of having the ForthDD microdisplay integrated into a Head Mounted Display (HMD) which will allow the user to experience a fully immersive videogame demonstration. This will be showcased at two well known entertainment trade shows in June, a project Gavin has thoroughly enjoyed working on. Gavin commented, "I really like how I can get fully involved in the ideas for the project and make myself heard at meetings. I am also responsible for organising many aspects of our visit to the events." He continued by saying, "This is not what you would usually expect from an internship and it really has given me a great opportunity to develop my future marketing career. Much of what I have been working on is focused on the videogame market and as it is an area I am quite passionate about, I would love to take what I have learned at ForthDD into a marketing career within the games industry in future."
How is the graduate placement programme benefiting your organisation?
Ursula Posch, Marketing and Communications Manager at Forth Dimension Displays commented, "Gavin has been the ideal candidate for this role and has picked up a number of new marketing skills which should take him easily into the next stage of his career. He has embraced this project fully and I believe he has really enjoyed taking on additional responsibilities and worked well autonomously."
ForthDD hope that by delivering a high quality, 3D immersive experience at the upcoming shows they can, in turn, get engagement from those involved in the gaming market and make their vision for entertainment-focused HMD applications a reality.
