Oregon

What is your company background?

Oregon Timber Frame Ltd. was established in 1998 and set up to design, manufacture and erect structural timber frames to National Housing Developers and large National Contractors and has grown to become the largest independent manufacturer in the UK. The vast majority of our work is with established, long term customers from whom we are awarded much repeat business. We are told that our products and services provided alongside technical support are some of the best available in the market.

Why did you choose to take on a graduate placement?

We have, in the past, successfully taken part in KTP placements for long term projects (coupled with research work with Universities) using specific skills of graduates for specific projects to develop and grow the business. TalentScotland had a ready-made list of potential candidates for the specific project we had in mind, indeed, from the short list presented to us for interview by TalentScotland we would have been happy to take on all three had we been in a position to do so!

What is your graduate involved in?

Stuart is helping the company’s Technical Director prepare – and hopefully establish – the business plan and strategy for a new Technical Services business within Oregon Timber Frame Ltd. The proposal is to have a one-stop shop for all energy related regulatory and compliance requirements for new and existing build – starting with our present customer base and expanding to the general public.

How is the graduate placement programme benefiting your organisation?

The graduate enables the company to put a person on a task, focusing 100% of their time on this; a ‘luxury’ other individuals are unable to have in, what is, a very busy business. The skills and talents gained from obtaining a degree are ideally suited: ability to take direction and go and find out the answers and write them down in a report, one example of this.
