Royal Dornoch Golf Club hosted a 6 month TalentScotland Graduate Placement and enable Liam McLaughlan to make the most of his BA in Golf Management.
What is your background?
I come from Edinburgh, studied Golf Management in Dornoch and graduated with a BA Golf Management from UHI in 2011. I love golf wanted to work in that industry.
Why did you apply to the TalentScotland Graduate Placement Programme?
I applied for this job because I wanted to work at Royal Dornoch Gold Club. I felt it would be good for my CV, and I also needed a job and had no money. One of my friends told me about this opportunity.
What project were you involved in?
I have been able to show my boss that I am capable and responsible at carrying out numerous roles. I created and ran the Meet & Greet Service role. I also project managed the Golf Highland website and analysed customer data on where our golfers come from for the club that are now used for used for marketing purposes.
What have you taken away from the training course you attended as part of the Programme?
I took away from the training course a better understanding of my employer, what skills I’m good at as well as what I could learn to develop my career. Good things covered were negotiating, public speaking, finances and interviewing.
What advice would you give to other graduates?
Taking a placement with the TalentScotland Graduate Placement Programme will benefit you because they offer great external training, good opportunities to develop new skills. You can work with businesses that want passionate young employees in unusual parts of Scotland.
