Construction
The construction industry accounts for about 8 percent of all Scottish jobs.
The sector includes site preparation, building work, renting of construction equipment, architectural and engineering activities, and related technical consultancy.
Employers
Jobs in construction can be found throughout Scotland, including the Highlands and Islands. There are a number of major employers, however most employees work for smaller companies. Around 97 percent of companies employ less than 50 people.
Self-employment is common and construction trades people may also work on a labour-only basis for a contractor.
If you're self-employed you may need to have a Construction Industry Scheme registration card (CIS).
For more information on CIS visit the HM Revenue and Customs website
