Pre school activities
Scotland has an extensive nursery network and many well-attended toddler groups. Dance and drama classes, petting zoos and indoor soft play areas help to keep small children in Scotland entertained.
Toddlers clubs
Toddlers Clubs in Scotland are organised by many local councils and they’re useful places to meet new people and help increase the confidence of your child.
Music and dance
Ballet, dance and even drumming lessons are available for preschool age children in Scotland. Class times, locations and costs vary but prices are, on the whole, very reasonable.
Creative music and dance sessions help small children improve their coordination skills. Music classes often include nursery rhymes to develop a child’s vocabulary and parents are encouraged to join in.
The Scottish Youth Theatre runs a series of drama workshops throughout the year for children under five years old. Through improvisation and dance children’s confidence is improved.
Soft play areas
There are soft play areas in all of Scotland’s cities. Toddlers and children under five can explore, climb and slide around, in a fully-cushioned play area.
Scrambles, in Edinburgh International Climbing Arena (EICA), is one of Scotland’s largest soft pay areas and has separate areas for babies, toddlers (18 months - 4 years) and slightly older children (4-9years old) and parents can look on from the comfort of the café.
Edinburgh International Climbing Arena also has regular classes for young children. Mini Kickers is a football coaching programme, designed by the Scottish Football Association (SFA), for boys and girls aged from 3 – 5. Mini Tennis offers a fun introduction to basic tennis and helps improve coordination skills of pre-school age children.
Farm parks
Farms Parks offer an interesting day out where smaller children can take part in a mixture of outdoor activities. There are often petting zones, arts and craft activities and, at some farm parks, tractor rides and downhill sledging facilities.
