Healthcare

Healthcare in Scotland is provided by the National Health Service (NHS Scotland), and like the rest of the UK, services provided are free. There is also a small independent private healthcare sector.

Almost 160,000 people work in NHS Scotland.

Healthcare is managed and delivered through 23 Health Boards. Each is responsible for delivery of care within their regions or speciality, and they manage all staffing of hospitals and community-delivered care.
