Holidays

Scotland has very generous laws regarding the amount of time employees are allowed to take as paid leave from their work.

Holidays are calculated on the number of days you work so if you work a regular five day week then you are entitled to no fewer than 28 days of holiday per year.

Many employers offer more than the minimum number of days of holiday as an incentive to work for that company.

In addition, it is usual for employers to reward long service with an additional day’s holiday.

Public and bank holidays

Public and bank holidays in Scotland are additional dates where many companies, traditionally banks, are closed for the day.

You are not entitled to paid leave on a public or bank holiday, however, many businesses offer this as an added incentive to their employees.
