Glasgow

Glasgow has some of the best shops of any city in Scotland and is second only to London in terms of the number and range of shops available.

In the heart of Glasgow, is the city’s 'Style Mile'; a concentration of designer shops, high street stores, restaurants and cafes. From the end of Sauchiehall Street to Argyle Street, and Buchanan Street in between, the area includes the world’s oldest covered shopping arcade, the department store House of Fraser, Marks & Spencer and designer clothing centre Prince’s Square.

Something for everyone

Take a trip to Glasgow’s west end and you’ll find some of the city’s best kept secrets; specialist delis and coffee shops, independent music stores and vintage clothes shops.

Glasgow has a number of designer shops to cater to the more discerning shopper. High end boutiques like Ralph Lauren, Versace and Mulberry can be found in Glasgow’s Merchant City district.

Argyle Arcade, just off Buchanan Street, is home to the world’s largest collection of jewellers and diamond merchants; over thirty are housed under one roof. The centre was Scotland’s first ever indoor shopping mall and is one of Europe’s oldest covered shopping arcades.

The Barrowlands Market

The Barrowlands Market, or ‘The Barras’ as it’s known locally, is a Glasgow institution. The world-famous market includes a range of pubs and shops and sells everything from fur coats, and bric-a-brac, to old work boots and even fishing tackle. There’s nothing you can’t buy at The Barras.

Situated in the city’s Trongate area, The Barras is within walking distance of Glasgow city centre. Even if you’re not buying, it’s worth taking a walk around on a Saturday or Sunday morning and taking in the atmosphere.

Getting to Glasgow’s shops

Buchannan Galleries, at the top of Buchanan Street, has over 80 high street shops, including John Lewis, H&M, Mango, Next and Gap. The shopping centre is in the heart of Glasgow’s Style Mile and is only minutes from the M8 motorway. It’s extremely close to Buchanan Bus Station, next to Buchanan Underground Station and a ten minute walk from Glasgow Central Station.

Whether you’re looking for a household bargain, something for a special occasion, or a high street find, Glasgow has it all.
