Katherine is a figurehead for career minded women; at the age of twenty-six she became one of the highest-profile and highest-paid women in the City, gaining the title of ‘Katherine the Great.’

She was nominated a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum ten years ago and since then has been named the Vice Chair of the Baring Foundation and is a member of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bank AG.

As CEO of Alliance Trust she is responsible for both the investment policy and asset allocation of the company as well as executive oversight for the business. She has over 25 years' experience in the investment industry, having managed North American, Emerging Market and Global Equities portfolios.

It was this continued success and clear demonstration as a standout female role model which were cited by the judging panel as two of the key reasons why Katherine was awarded the prestigious Veuve Clicquot accolade; widely regarded as the ‘Oscars’ for female business leaders globally.

In just over 3 years, under her leadership, the combined assets of Alliance Trust and Alliance Trust Investments have doubled to £5.6bn. Part of this growth has come from the development of Alliance Trust Investments, a third party asset management business, which Katherine established. In 2011, it had £125m of third party assets, today it manages over £2.0bn of assets, predominantly in its Sustainable Future and Fixed Income fund ranges. Alliance Trust Investments is now one of the leading managers of sustainable and responsible investments in the UK.

Katherine Garrett-Cox commented:

“I was completely delighted to be considered, but to have won the Veuve Clicquot Business Woman Award is a massive honour. So many exceptional women have been recognised over its forty-three year history and I’m proud to be able to celebrate and shine a light on female success in financial services.

I want women to see this sector as one where they can grow, succeed, learn and ultimately achieve a balanced but incredibly fulfilling career. Mme Clicquot was one of the world’s first female business leaders and her passion and spirit is still relevant and serves as an inspiration to me as well as others today.”
