From 1 October 2016, EEA nationals making an application to the Home Office for a registration certificate or a permanent residence card can now do so online, instead of completing the paper form. This will enable use of the new European passport return service, meaning that an original passport does not need to be posted with the application.
In Scotland, the process involves requesting an appointment at the Glasgow premium service centre by email within 5 days of submitting the online form and providing specific information such as name, date of birth, nationality, passport number, and telephone number.
You will then need to take your original documents to the appointment, such as an application form, passport and supporting documentation.
The European passport return service incurs no additional costs and other benefits include getting your passport back on the same day of the appointment. The online form and the European passport return service cannot be used by non-EEA family members and they will need to continue using the paper application forms.
