As of 06 April 2017, further rule changes to the UK visa system used by employers to recruit skilled international workers have become effective. This is the second of two phases of changes to the Tier 2 sponsorship system with the first phase being effective since November 2016.
The Tier 2 (General) and Tier 2 (Intra-company Transfer) routes are both affected by the updates to the rules, which implement such changes as:
- Further increased salary thresholds for Tier 2 (General) category
- Introduction of Immigration Skills Charge
- Requirement of obtaining criminal record certificate for certain sponsored jobs
- Closure of the Tier 2 (ICT) short term category
Employers should familiarise themselves with the changes that have been made in order to ensure compliance with the new rules. More information can be found here.
