Sponsored by the Scottish Enterprise Proof of Concept programme, internationally recognised researchers at Napier University are developing a leading-edge tool that helps reduce development time and save money through wider and smoother component reuse.


Focussing on this market need, the Software Reuse Research Group at Napier University has developed an approach to eliminating component mismatch problems by adapting the components using a highly automated process (achieving seamless component integration and significantly reducing code overhead).

This approach has been used to construct a new component based development tool named flexiCAGE™ (flexible Component Adaptation and Generation Environment), a patent for which has been filed.

flexiCAGE™ has received very positive feedback from market assessment, including interests from several major software vendors. flexiCAGE™ occupies a unique position in the global software development tools market and represents a significant commercial opportunity. A new company is being set up, within which we will recruit a few software developers with hand-on development skills in .NET (C#), and sound knowledge of software reuse in particular component-based development.

Our vision is to make the flexiCAGE™ company a recognised leader in the provision of automated tools that facilitate the fast and cost effective development of software applications.
