Hydrafact Ltd

Hydrafact provides consultancy and technical laboratory service to the oil and gas industry, principally in the field of gas hydrates and flow assurance.

Hydrafact Ltd

Specifically, we offer:

  • Technical consultancy and lab services
  • Gas Hydrate prediction software (HydraFLASH)
  • Hydrate early warning technology
  • Flow assurance and gas hydrate training
  • Laboratory equipment manufacture

We are a company founded by research scientists and the research ethos remains at the core of our work. Our aim is to continually push the boundaries of hydrate and flow assurance R&D while providing first class technical services to the oil industry.

Hydrafact dates back to 1986, when gas hydrate research first began at the Institute of Petroleum Engineering, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.

Over the following 20 years, sequential Joint Industry (JIP), government funded, and individual consultancy projects saw the Heriot-Watt Hydrate Group firmly establish itself within the industry and academic community as a leader in flow assurance research, with a reputation for quality experimental work and advanced theoretical studies.

Recent trends within the industry, including the move to deepwaters, exploitation of marginal fields, and production from ageing reservoirs, have made hydrate control an ever more important economic and safety issue. In light of this, demand has been growing steadily for specialised hydrate studies, training for engineers, and advanced equipment for laboratory studies. In 2006, Hydrafact was formed to meet this need.

Hydrafact is managed by senior staff from the Centre for Gas Hydrate Research at Heriot-Watt University. We come from a variety of backgrounds, including drilling and production, chemical engineering, geology and geophysics. Combined, we have over 40 years hydrate and flow assurance experience. We can draw on our own industrial expertise and the many experiences of our clients in helping you achieve your flow assurance goals.
