An unrivalled combination of silicon and system expertise, manufacturing strength, Intellectual Property portfolio and strategic partners positions, the company at the forefront of System-on-Chip technology and its products play a key role in enabling today's convergence trends.
The Company’s Imaging Division has staff in various sites worldwide, c100 of which are based in Scotland. STMicroelectronics’ Edinburgh facility combines pioneering imaging expertise in CMOS (complimentary metal oxide semiconductor) technology with the broad portfolio of ST IP (Intellectual Property), cores, libraries and technologies. This unique combination of strengths has opened new perspectives in the "system on silicon" introduction in the consumer, computer, wireless communications, automotive and industrial markets.
The Edinburgh site remains the largest single site within the division and as such hosts some elements of the majority of different disciplines deployed by the divison. This ranges from initial system and algorithm development through full custom sensor and module design through to product engineering and customer applications.
ST’s new generation of CMOS image sensors and associated system co-processors bring industry-leading price-performance solutions from CIF through to megapixel resolutions. The small physical size and low operating power make them ideal for portable applications.
ST is now one of the world's largest suppliers of CMOS sensors for mobile phone cameras.
