Skyscanner started life in Edinburgh in 2003, and has grown to over 900 staff across ten international global offices. Skyscanner provides real-time search of thousands of flight, hotel and car hire providers around the world to help users wherever they are and wherever they are going, to find the best travel options for their journey.

Looking for innovators
We put a lot of time and energy into recruiting really good developers. We don’t necessarily demand experience in specific coding languages (we currently use a mix of Python, C# and some Java) but focus on the quality of the code. Languages can be learned but we’re looking beyond that to the programming talent. We look for the most dynamic, innovative individuals.
Our recruiters are constantly scouring job websites, going to careers fairs and checking LinkedIn and Twitter for the best talent from all over the world.
We have around 40 different nationalities working for us which has helped create a very dynamic environment to work in. We’re just about to complete a major recruitment drive for our graduate and internship programmes across our international offices. Last year 18 out of the 20 interns we hired stayed on with us. We are still in touch with the others and hope they will return this year.
I started as a graduate programmer four and a half years ago and I now run a team of 40. There’s so much scope for development within the company. When I joined there were just under 40 people. Now we have 40 people in Data Acquisition Team alone and over 400 people worldwide.

Edinburgh has a lot of different nationalities - a real community feel. I see it all the time in Skyscanner. There’s a big network of communities willing to help newcomers settle in. Edinburgh’s a very welcoming city.
