Skyscanner started with the goal to become "the first flight search engine in the world to show fares for every flight at the touch of a button". The 11-year-old company now has 30 million users, a fifth of them from Asia, and it doubled both revenues and profits last year.

Based in Edinburgh, it employs four-fifths of its 500 strong workforce in Scotland, as well as having operations in Singapore, Beijing, Miami and Barcelona.

Co-founder and chief executive Gareth Williams is hoping to grow the company even further. He said, "There is a huge amount of digital talent in Scotland, and we need to harness that talent in ever-increasing sizes of team. That is how Scotland can play its full part in the digital economy."
