Juan Cabrerizo, Spanish National, Living and Working in Scotland

Hola! I’m Juan. I always wanted to move to the UK and when the perfect opportunity arrived I left my hometown and moved to Scotland. It was the best decision I ever made!

Working in Scotland

Staying in the UK was on my to do list for years. Luckily for me, when I was 35 and I had almost discarded it, I received an opportunity I didn't want to ignore, I quit my job at the Santander Bank in my hometown and moved to Scotland.

I currently work for an incredible company as a Software Engineer where I’m growing everyday while I work with international companies in key sectors helping them in their core IT infrastructure management.

Living in Scotland

Scotland has been very friendly to me, the people here are more open than any other European city I know. What first caught my eye was how proud they are of the history of their cities and how they are conserved.

The countryside, lochs, mountains, are amazing, but so are the urban parks, natural forests, and city hills, I am always surprised by the beauty when I walk around Edinburgh.

I believe Edinburgh is a good place to live for a family in a healthier way than it is in Spain, and this could probably be extended to all Scotland.

Lockdown made me notice how much I missed my family and friends in Spain but at the same time it made me realise how much I loved Edinburgh’s spirit.

When I moved to Edinburgh during the summer of 2018 I didn’t know about the Fringe or the other festivals. 2019 was full of opportunities to get to know the country and enjoy it. My end of the year promise was to start doing weekend trips to smaller areas, but because of COVID it has been impossible.

I’m looking forward to seeing how Edinburgh revives from its forced shutdown and open my house again to my friends to come here once traveling is no longer a risk.

I’d invite everyone to come here to discover a lovely country full of opportunities to live and work.
